Tony Barbee is a former college basketball player and coach. He was born on August 10, 1971, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Barbee played college basketball at the University of Massachusetts from 1989 to 1993 under coach John Calipari.
After his playing career, Barbee began coaching, working as an assistant coach at UMass, Wyoming, and Memphis. He also served as an assistant coach for the United States national team at the FIBA Americas Championship in 2007.
In 2010, Barbee was hired as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers men's basketball team. He coached at Auburn until 2014, compiling a record of 49-75 in four seasons. After leaving Auburn, Barbee served as an assistant coach at Kentucky, Missouri, and Central Michigan.
Barbee is known for his defensive coaching style and his ability to develop players. He has a reputation for being a hard worker and a passionate coach.
